THIS IS WHAT IS ON OUR ULVERSTONE HIGH WEBSITE
WELCOME TO ULVERSTONE HIGH!
Ulverstone, situated on Tasmania’s North West Coast is a centre of 15,000 people serving a rich agricultural area. Ulverstone High School serves the town of Ulverstone and surrounding rural communities. It was established in 1953 and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2013. Associated primary schools include Forth, Sprent, East Ulverstone, West Ulverstone, Ulverstone Central and Sacred Heart Catholic School.
The student population has been fairly stable over the last few years and is currently approximately 450 students. Ulverstone High School continues to explore ways to transform learning for students from Year 7-10 and in 2017 the inclusion of Year 11 and 12 students will add to our school and provide the opportunity to attend our school from Year 7-12 into the future.
The school has a vision of developing excellence – in academic, practical and cultural life, in sport, in life beyond school and in relationships. High standards are expected of all within our school community. It has a commitment to the student, parent and teacher partnership.
Our school motto is “Care, Create, Achieve”, all of which underpin our school’s values of Respect, Responsibility, Achievement, Creativity and Connectedness. Over the past few years we have implemented the Australian Curriculum to be at the forefront of pedagogies and resources.
Student leadership and contribution to school life is a vital aspect of our school community. Examples of leadership roles include the Student Representative Council, Peer Support Leaders, Sports Leaders, Library Monitors and Canteen Assistants. Student views are sought on a range of matters relating to the school and its programs.
Students can have learning experiences in the performing and visual arts, STEM, through our F1 in Schools Program, hold exhibitions in our school Art Gallery or venture in to the outdoors through our Outdoor Education Program.
Over the last eight years, the school has made improvements in a number of areas to support student learning. During 2016 our gymnasium has been upgraded and a new Year 11 and 12 area will be created in readiness for 2017.
We currently operate a program for all Year 9 and 10 students which provides them with the flexibility of choosing six courses of study for 250 minutes each week.
The School Association is involved in the development of our School Plan. It oversees policies relating to finance, site and maintenance procedures as well as our curriculum. Our parents and our School Association continue to strongly support the school, as does the local community.
We have a Work Experience Program that enables students access to the world of work in conjunction with My Education Programs to clarify and help them plan for their future.
Our school is a 2017 Year 11 and 12 extension school and is working towards providing opportunities and choice for students to complete their TCE, gain a VET qualification or an ATAR score for entry into university. The school is looking forward to working with our school community and local colleges as we implement this new structure into our school.
