Welcome to Ulverstone Secondary College!
Ulverstone, situated on Tasmania’s North West Coast, is a centre of 15,000 people supporting a rich agricultural area. Ulverstone Secondary College serves the town of Ulverstone and surrounding rural communities. Established in 1953, our associated primary schools include Forth, Sprent, East Ulverstone, West Ulverstone, Ulverstone Central and Sacred Heart Catholic School.
The student population has been fairly consistent over the last few years and is currently around 550 students. Ulverstone Secondary College continues to explore ways to transform learning for students from Year 7-12. In 2017 the inclusion of courses for Year 11 and 12 students added to our school and now provides the opportunity to belong to our school community from Year 7-12.
Our vision is to be ‘An inspiring and Innovative Learning Community’. High standards are expected of all within our school community. We are committed to the student, parent and teacher partnership.
Our school motto is “Care, Create, Achieve”, all of which underpin our school’s values of Grit, Respect, Achievement, Creativity and Belonging. Over the past few years we have implemented the Australian Curriculum to be at the forefront of pedagogies curriculum delivery and resources.
Student leadership and contribution to school life are vital aspects of our learning community. Examples of leadership roles include the Student Representative Council, Peer Support Leaders, Sports Leaders, Library Monitors and Canteen Assistants. Student views are sought on a range of matters relating to the school and its programs.
Students can have learning experiences ranging from Performance and Visual Art exhibitions in our school Art Gallery to venturing into the natural environment through our Outdoor Education Program.
Over the last eight years, the school has made physical improvements in a number of areas to support student learning. During 2016 our gymnasium was upgraded and a new Year 11 and 12 area was developed in 2017, with another facility being completed in 2018 following increasing enrolments.
The School Association is involved in the development of our School Plan. It oversees policies relating to finance, site management and maintenance procedures as well as our curriculum. Our parents and our School Association continue to strongly support the work of our staff, as does the local community.
We have a Work Experience Program that enables students access to the world of work in conjunction with My Education Programs to clarify and help them plan for their future.
Our school since 2017 has catered for students in Years 7-12 and is working towards increasing opportunities and choice for students to complete their Tasmanian Certificate of Education, gain a Vocation Education & Training qualification or an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank for entry into university. Ulverstone Secondary College is looking forward to working with our community and local colleges as we continue to develop and incorporate structures in to our school.
